Modern Foreign Languages

At The Nightingale Federation, we believe that languages are an essential part of a broad and balanced curriculum, opening a window to the world and fostering global citizenship. Our French curriculum is designed to spark a love of language learning and cultural exploration, celebrating both similarities and differences between cultures. We aim to embed the essential skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing in exciting and inspiring ways. From Key Stage 1, where pupils are introduced to language through songs and rhymes, to Key Stage 2, where French is taught in line with the National Curriculum, our students develop a curiosity and respect for other cultures and the skills for basic communication in another language. As a result of our curriculum, children will gain a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, particularly of countries in Europe, and will be encouraged to have a greater appreciation of cultures beyond the UK.
